Watching hurricane Rita churn her way towards the coast of Texas just a few weeks after Katrina ruined so many lives in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, I'm praying for two things: the safety of the people in Rita's path; and that religious extremists, like
Repent America's Michael Marcavage, do not use this as yet another opportunity to preach that God is punishing the victims. In times of devastation and pain, wise and caring men and women offer only comfort to those in need, not the one-two punch of "sorry about your loss, but God's a bully and you accidentally got in his way."
I hold my breath and hope for safety...and compassion.

Wonder what the excuse will be if the hurricane wipes out a swath of Gawd-fearin' Texans' homes? 'Cause ever'body knows ain't no sinnin' goin' on down thar in Gawd's country.
Hurricane's are nature's way of being well a bully. Not God's judgement. I too get sick of people saying, "God is punishing us." If they were true God fearin' folks, they'd recall He promised not to destroy mankind by water again. Great Blog!
The way Repent America's Michael Marcavage explained Katrina's destruction of the homes and lives of innocent Christian straight people, it was because of their complacency, allowing so much sin and decadence to happen in their home town for so long. Folks like Marcavage could read divine messages into the phone book that would justify their own personal disputes and vengeances. In the end, who does he think he's helping when he preaches crap like this, especially when he can see real people in real need? Then again, I know I'm preaching to the choir as Louisianans evacuate their homes one more time and a bus full of old people burns on the highway out of Houston.
God id not punishing anybody. We are all crying for the victims.
